Poetry: “Only Me knows”

Ever since,
The days dissolved,
One into the next,
Months unfurling quietly,
Threading into years,
And still into more.

I dress my days in purpose,
Busyness, my faithful veil.
I wear my smile like armor,
Find beauty in passing shadows,
And bow to each ordinary moment
As if it were enough.
It helps.
It helps me forget,
Until silence finds me again.

Time ticks.
Day breaks.
And in hush, truth drifts in.
Love, unbidden, speaks,
Gentle yet unrelenting.
It dwells here.
It has made home in my heart.
I do not cast it out.
I do not lie to myself.
It is part of me.

And in my dreams, oh, my dreams!
I reach, empty-handed.
You are always just beyond.
Still, I stretch.
Still, you don’t see.
Midnight takes me, again,
And morning testifies
With salt-stained pillows
And a new sunrise.

Another day begins,
And I walk into it,
Unseen, yet still loving you
Fiercely. Quietly.
Only me knows this love.
